Lot Essay

This type of enamel box has traditionally been described as Berlin enamel of the type produced at the Fromery workshop. It had been supposed that the French hallmarks on most of these boxes result from their being mounted in Paris. Recent research, notably by Lise Moor, would suggest that there is less foundation in the hypothesis of a Franco-German co-production than was formerly believed.
