probably Germany or Austria, struck with two French post-1864 import marks for 18-carat gold
Rectangular box, the cover, four sides and base inset with rectangular mother-of-pearl panels carved with Rococo scrolls, strapwork and architectural motifs, applied with polychrome opaque and translucent enamelled gold figures in peasant dress, vases, exotic birds, flowerswags and scrolls, inset with rectangular-cut diamonds at the corners and bordering each canopy surmounting the central figure, the frosted gold cagework borders applied with translucent green and opaque blue enamel foliage, slightly raised wavy pushpiece
