The base of brown and black agate shaped and humoristically carved as a gorilla's head, the eyes inset with rubies, the rim at the base stamped with a stylized acanthus border on a matted gold ground, the slightly raised gold lid enamelled in translucent yellow on an engine-turned ground of concentrical wavy reeding and applied with the Russian Imperial double-headed Eagle studded with old-mine cut diamonds and centred by a sapphire cabochon, surrounded by a laurel wreath tied at the base with a ribbon, eight-cut diamond-set pushpiece
