The attribution to Pietro Faccini was confirmed by Mario di Giampaolo on the basis of a photograph. The handling of this sheet, particularly in the foreground, is close to that of two of drawings depicting the Magdalen in Budapest and Hamburg (A. Czére, Disegni di artisti bolognese nel Museo delle Belle Arti di Budapest, Bologna, 1989, no. 25 and illustrated p. 58).
