THE MERRILL LINDSAY ARCHIVE
Comprising over 1500 slides and transparencies (all taken by photographer Bruce Pendleton) of outstanding antique firearms in museums and private collections in Western Europe and the United States, some no longer extant, together with the text of his projected book entitled 'Great Guns of the Western World', and a three-volume index of type-written text cataloguing 58 collections, stored numerically on pull-out frames in an illuminated metal slide cabinet, with drop front shelf, storage drawer, and cabinet below.
The slides presented were taken for use originally in three books, One Hundred Great Guns, Great Guns of American Collectors, and Miniature Arms, as well as illustrated articles on the decoration of firearms which appeared in Argosy, Esquire, Guns Magazine, Gun Digest, Status, Time, and True Magazine. Also included is an inventory and appraisal of the arms collection of William Goodwin Renwick, carried out by Merrill Lindsay in September 1971, and of the Bequest from William G. Renwick to the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.
