AN OFFICER'S HELMET OF AUSTRIAN CUIRASSIERS &C, AND A HEADDRESS CASE
Second quarter 19th Century
The helmet with black japanned skull and gilt crest (the sides embossed with lion and serpent etc.) and gilt mounts including helmet-plate bearing F I cypher and lion's mask side-bosses retaining the black leather chinstrap (no chinscales, crest defective and lacking its chenille); together with a headdress case, probably for this type of helmet, of stiffened dark brown leather with leather carrying-handle to the domed top, brass-studded leather straps and brass lock-catch (bearing an intricate mark incorporating an anchor? with monogram), chamois lining, compartment below inside, possibly for the detached chenille (2)

This pattern of helmet was also worn by Dragoons and Chevauxlegers.
