A page of lyrics in Phil Collins' hand for One More Night, 1984, the sixteen lines in blue ballpoint pen, incomplete, omitting the wording for the chorus, showing amendments to the text as Collins worked out the song's wording; in common mount with a handwritten note from Phil Collins, signed, stating ...this is to confirm that the lyrics opposite were written out by me whilst I was composing the song 'One More Night', way back in 1984. As a song is written, the lyrics sometimes go through many changes and updating. Some words 'oing' better than others, hence the changes.., the note additionally annotated with a self-portrait caricature, overall measurements -- 13x21in. (33x53.3cm.)

Lot Essay

One More Night reached number four in the U.K. charts as the A-side to I Like The Way in April, 1985 and number one in the U.S. in February, 1985 as the A-side to The Man With The Horn. It appeared on Phil Collins' 1985 album No Jacket Required which won a Grammy for Pop Album Of The Year in 1985.

These lyrics and those in the following lot were donated by Phil Collins to a charity auction in 1997 where the current vendor acquired them.
