Queen/Freddie Mercury
A collection of material relating to Freddie Mercury, including:
- a Japanese kimono of ivory silk damask decorated with orange, black, yellow and green stencilled foliage, flowers and phoenix -- the kimono owned by Freddie Mercury circa early 1970s; accompanied by a reproduction of a colour photograph of Freddie Mercury wearing a similar kimono on stage during Queen's tour of North America, 1976 (printed later) -- 10x8in. (25.4x20.3cm.);
- and two stage designs by Freddie Mercury for Queen's first headline tour of the U.K., March, 1974 , both gouache on celluloid, largest -- 8½x15½in. (21.6x39.3cm.) (4)

Lot Essay

According to the vendor, Norman Sheffield, the kimono included in this lot was one of several Freddie Mercury brought back from Japan after Queen's first Japanese tour, April, 1975. Freddie Mercury gave this kimono to Sheffield following a photo shoot.
