This robustly carved mirror, with its floral wreath cresting flanked by cherubs and floral sprays, relates to contemporary designs of mirrors after works by the influential ornemaniste and architect to William III, Daniel Marot illustrated in T.A. Strange, French Interiors, Furniture, Decoration, London, n. d., pp. 132-4. A French-born architect and designer who worked mainly in England and Holland, Daniel Marot published many influential designs for furniture, decorative objects, and interiors. Marot's influence spread throughout northern Europe. The pierced foliate-scroll decoration of the crest and delicately carved pierced cushion molded frame with its ornately scrolled foliate decoration is typical of the designs produced by North European craftsmen.
