Lot Essay
This rare Norwich, Connecticut couch is attributed to the shop of Felix Huntington based on two related sets of chairs that descended in the family of General Jabez Huntington (1719-1786) and two letters sent to General Huntington by John Chester that discuss the chairs and the prices charged by Felix Huntington. While the legs have been reduced in height by perhaps two inches, the couch is rare and significant as a document of a furniture form rarely made in Norwich. One other example of the form is known.
