Lot Essay

The 'Bär-Dolly' was originally conceived by Steiff as an American Presidential campaign mascot for Thomas Woodrow Wilson, following the success of Teddy's Bear and Billy Possum. Although as well as the patriotic red, white and blue colours, they were also available in green and yellow. This example was sourced from England, so is unlikely to have any actual American connections.
