The present watercolour would appear to be a preparatory drawing for the oil painting Crossing the Brook, exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1850, which was sold to Joseph Gillott the Birmingham pen manufacturer for £315. It is now in the Bury Art Gallery and Museum.

Lot Essay
