A Stagshorn, a Wood and an Ivory Netsuke
Edo Period (Mid-Late 18th Century)
The first an attractive, well worn and patinated Kyoto model of a koken dog sitting up with its weight on its front legs, the himotoshi formed by a hole in the base connecting with one in the side; the second a puppy with a shell tied to its collar; the third an emaciated dog crouching over a haunch of meat, the fur well rendered, the eyes inlaid in ivory and horn, the legs forming several natural himotoshi, with signature Tomotada on a rectangular reserve under the left hind foot
