A Fine Set of Kura [Saddle] and Abumi [Stirrups]
Edo Period (18th Century)
The saddle decorated in gold hiramaki-e on a black lacquer ground with leaves of shurochiku [hemp palm, Rhapis humilis], the kurashiki [saddle pad], shitagawa [saddle cloth] and leather stirrup-straps all of embossed and lacquered leather with a variety of floral motifs, the iron stirrips decorated in flat inlay of silver with leaves of shurochiku, signed in silver inlaid characters on the shanks Kanazawa no ju Nagamitsu saku [made by Nagamitsu of Kanazawa]

Lot Essay

Haynes lists two generations of Kaga-province artists using the name Nagamitsu, the first dying in 1707 and the second in 1745.1
