A German silver-gilt and coral-mounted turbo shell cup and cover
Mark of Hans Berthold, Nuremberg, circa 1610, with 19th century alterations and additions
The shell on cylindrical stem and spreading circular openwork foot pierced with hexafoil scrolls and with rope-twist border, the foot and stem applied with beading and foliate scroll brackets, the shell with foliate straps, the flared collar with corded and shaped foliate lower border and chased with scrolling flowers and foliage, the detachable partly-lobed cover chased above with foliate border and applied with a cast dolphin finial, the cover and stem each with a string of coral beads, marked on rim only
