This work is sold with a photo-certificate from Robert Descharnes dated Paris, le mardi 26 janvier 1988. The work is recorded in his archives as D 588.

According to Robert Descharnes, this watercolour, also known as 'El caballero surrealista', belongs to the series of studies for Dalí's Hommage à toi France' executed in 1971.
