Lot Essay

"I began to collect drawings in depth in the early 90s. It seemed an overlooked category and I respected the obsessive discipline of several young artists. I learned of Russell's nightly viewing of the sky from his own observatory and bought a single sheet as soon as I saw it. Soon thereafter, I saw this exhaustive book and was thrilled by the depth of his commitment. In the process of portraying the infinity of the cosmos, Crotty explores a universe of drawing and all its possibilities."
