c.1933 MOTO GUZZI SPORT 15 MOTORCYCLE

Introduced in 1923, the Sport series Motor Guzzi would establish the company name on an International basis. Owing much to experience gained through competition success, which had begun with Gino Finzi's win in the 1921 Targa Florio and would continue for the next three decades, they provided often avant-garde solutions to technical problems and quickly earnt the company a strong reputation for reliable, well built motorcycles.
In 1931 the Sport 15 was introduced at the Motosalone of Milan, it was a direct evolution of the 14 that preceded it, but represented a great advancement in the sheer quality of the machine. It quickly became renowned for its sturdy chassis and good brakes, which lent well to all round use, whether it were in the style of its sporting name or for city travelling. At the time of its launch it retailed at 5,900 Lira, approximately 5,000 Euros today, depending which dynamo/magneto system were opted for.
The Sport 15 proved to be an extremely popular machine remaining in production for 8 years, during which various modifications and refinements were introduced, part chromed tanks as on this motorcycle arrived in 1933, while carburettors later were changed from Amal to Dellorto.
This is an archetypal example of the model, in Italian red livery, and presented in fine restored cosmetic order. At the time of cataloguing Christie's has not had the opportunity to test the machine, and so cannot comment on its mechanical condition.
