Lot Essay

Harold Foot was an antique dealer who occupied 36 High Street, Oxford from 1938-1940. Mr. Foot sometimes labelled the items that he sold, including a card-table from the collection of Marjorie Wiggin Prescott, sold Christie's New York, 31 January 1981, lot 389 and another sold by the late Mrs M.B. Casey in these Rooms, 14 November 1991, lot 136. An early Georgian burr and figured-walnut tallboy, belonging to a descendant of Mr. Foot, and formerly in his private collection, was sold in these Rooms, on 6 April 1995, lot 265, (£77,000).

A George II burr-walnut card-table formerly belonging to Harold Foot, was sold from the Parry Collection, in these Rooms, 21 April 1997, lot 272 (£27,600).
