A HUANGHUALI RECESSED-LEG TABLE, PINGTOUAN
17th century
The floating-panel top set within a wide frame with molded sides and 'ice-plate' edge, the beaded apron continuing to the spandrels, each finely carved as a stylized phoenix with crest, scrolling tail, wings and sharply hooked beak overlapping the apron, slotted into legs of rectangular section with rounded fronts and raised molding at the edges and center, joined by pairs of stretchers with rounded sides and straight tops and bottom edges

Compare a very similar huanghuali recessed-leg table with comparable archaistic phoenix spandrels, but with a nanmu burl top, sold in these rooms, The Mr. and Mrs. Robert P.
