Details
JAMES BAILLIE FRASER (1783-1856)
A View of Chandpal Ghat; A View of the River, Shipping, and Town from near Smiths Deck

2 hand-coloured aquatints by Robert Havell after Fraser (each 425 x 590mm), on thick paper, the first watermarked 'J. Whatman 1825'.

Two beautifully-coloured and decorative views from Fraser's Views of Calcutta and its environs, London: Rodwell and Martin, 1824-1826. Fraser's images provide invaluable records of the topography of the fast-changing city of Calcutta. Influenced by other artists working there, such as George Chinnery and William Havell, Fraser produced atmospheric and detailed prints of Calcutta from his sketches and drawings.
