Lot Essay

There are few extant works by Okanobu, a follower of the Kyoto carver Okatomo (see lot 245). For a nearly identical ox in the collection of the British Museum, see Victor Harris, Netsuke: The Hull Grundy Collection in the British Museum (London: British Museum Publications Ltd., 1987), no. 161.
