A LARGE GROUP OF MAINLY ROMAN GOLD EARRINGS

Comprising eighteen pairs and four single earrings, including three pairs of gold and garnet earrings, each with wire hoops set with an oval garnet in box setting, a rigid pendant below composed of an inverted pyramid of five hollow gold spheres; a similar pair with cornelian inlay, 7/8 in. (2.2 cm.) high av.; two pairs of earrings each with central convex shield on the wire hoop and a pyramidal cluster of granules below; two similar pairs with suspended wire rod pendant below (beads missing), 1 3/8 in. (3.5 cm.) high max.; a pair with narrow tapered hollow hoop and suspended blue glass bead, ¾ in. (1.8 cm.) high; three other pairs of tapered hollow hoop earrings with granule or coiled wire decoration, 1 in. (2.5 cm.) high max.; a Roman gold intaglio ring, the glass intaglio with figure of Mercury standing, holding caduceus and money-bag, set in a hollow gold hoop with broad shoulders, circa 2nd Century A.D.; and a later silver bracelet (42)
