Varying sizes from 7 x 10cm. to 20.5 x 28.5cm. or reverse. 2 titled and numbered in negatives; majority captioned and a few dated in ink/pencil on recto or on mounts. Red, dark blue and black half leather. With approx. 32 loose photographs and 2 albums pertaining to the Whitbread Family.

Lot Essay

Many interesting group portraits, including one depicting Said Bargash, Sultan of Zanzibar (1870-88), children, priests and water carriers; the great Arab slave trader Tippoo Tib (illustrated) who played an integral role in European exploration of Africa in the 19th century, including the adventures of Stanley, Livingstone, Burton, Speke and Cameron; a platinum print portrait captioned Kombo servant; two views of the Palace after the bombardment of 1896; street scenes and other views.
