CLARK GABLE COSTUME DESIGN SKETCH SIGNED BY WALTER PLUNKETT FROM "GONE WITH THE WIND"
Selznick International Pictures/MGM, 1939
A watercolor and pencil on board sketch depicting Clark Gable as Rhett Butler wearing a white suit with black boots rendered by Walter Plunkett during the pre-production phases. Signed "Plunkett" in the lower right-hand corner, this piece has a 'Selznick International Pictures, Inc.' stamp on the verso, though it was not annotated. This famous ensemble (as are all the costumes from "GWTW" now) was worn by Rhett in the 'reading the names of the dead' scene where he expresses his anger about the "sheer waste" of war -- a sentiment just as meaningful today as it was during the Civil War.
19 x 16 inches
Provenance
As previous lot.
