A Chelsea Imari tureen and cover
Circa 1755
Of lobed circular form, the slightly domed cover with U-shaped loop finial painted in underglaze-blue, iron-red, green, yellow and gilt with a vibrant version of the Imari palette, with panels of mons, prunus blossom and other flowers alternating with brocade-patterns, the cover with gilt rim
11¼ in. (28.5 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

This pattern, part of the rare group of wares produced by Chelsea that #arry underglaze-blue decoration, were as a result often marked with a blue anchor. See Elizabeth Adams, Chelsea Porcelain (London, 1987), p. 92, pl. 77 and the plates of this pattern sold in these Rooms, 24 February 2003, lot 10 and 11.
