Lot Essay

The archives at Sèvres record that '1 coupe á pied form etrusque fond etc. avec portrait de l'Empereur' (M.N.S., Archives, Registre Vu 1, folio 21 vo, entré au magasin du 18 juin 1806, no. 181.23.' It seems that the form and ground colour were not viewed as being a great success, and so the sale price was fixed exactly at the cost price; 50 francs. (Our sincere thanks for Mme Tamara Preaud's help in compiling this entry).
