A Meissen gold-mounted chinoiserie snuff-box
Circa 1730-35
Of rectangular slightly bombé form with canted corners, the base finely painted by J.G. Höroldt with Orientals seated and standing by furniture, pedestals, vases and implements on a terrace, the sides each with a similar vignette within Ombrierte gilt quatrefoil cartouches edged with Böttger-lustre panels and gilt scrolls, the corners with further Orientals supported by Böttger-lustre panels and gilt scrolls, the centre of the domed stepped cover with a finely dressed figure seated on a throne surrounded by attendants, the Böttger-lustre moulded band cartouche with meandering gilt scrolls and Ombrierte brown line, within a border of gilt diaper panels divided by flowerheads and scrolls, the interior of the box and cover richly gilt, the cover reserved with a Ombrierte quatrefoil panel with a scene of Orientals at various pursuits on a terrace (small areas of wear to base, cover with very slight areas of wear, other areas of minute wear)
