AN EGYPTIAN POLYCHROME FAIENCE VASE
Ptolemaic Period, Circa 3rd-1st Century B.C.
Ovoid in form and egg-shell thin, pale blue in color with the ornament in white, including a central frieze with a reclining symposiast toasting a companion seated on a stack of pillows, with six ecstatically dancing women to the right, a figure playing the double flute, and more dancers further to the right, the frieze framed above by a band of wave, a band of ivy and berries, blue on white, below, a band of hound's tooth above the off-set foot, and bands of swags, guilloche and rosettes on the shoulders, the cylindrical neck and flaring rim now lost
