A William and Mary ebony striking table clock, circa 1690
With brass handle to shallow moulded cushion top, glazed side panels, with later fret to the front door rail, on later skirted base with later feet, the 6½in. square brass dial with scored border and winged cherub mask spandrels to a silvered chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers, calendar aperture to the matted centre, steel hands (later hour), the eight day twin wire fusee movement with five slender ringed pillars and now altered to anchor escapement, strike on bell, secured to the case with a bolt through the lower pillar and formerly with two brackets from the back plate to the baseboard, the tulip engraved back plate signed on a reserve Charles Gretton/in Fleete Street, with sector engraved 2 0 for missing pendulum lock (?), lacking pendulum holdfast, lacking repeat work -- 13¼in. (33.5cm.) high to hilt of handle
