This photograph is dedicated to the vendor's Aunt Ella who worked in the theatre in New York in the 1920s. On a visit to her family in England, she befriended the young Cary Grant and took him back to New York with her.
At the time of this photograph Cary Grant was 19 years old. At the age of 13, he ran away from home in England to join an acrobatic troupe and first went to New York in 1920 on the Troupe's US tour where he stayed until his return to England in 1923, the date of this signature. In England, he began appearing in musical comedies which led to appearances on Broadway. Ten years later, in 1932, he appeared in his first film role in This Is The Night. Later that same year, he had his first major success, opposite Marlene Dietrich, in Blonde Venus.
