TUCKEY, Captain James Kingston (1776-1816). Narrative of an Expedition to explore the River Zaire, usually called the Congo, in south Africa, in 1816, under the direction of Captain J.K. Tuckey... To which is added, the journal of Professor Smith; some general observations on the country and its inhabitants; and an appendix: conatining the natural history of that part of the kingdom of Congo through which the Zaire flows. FIRST EDITION IN THE RARE ORIGINAL BOARDS OF THE OFFICIAL ACCOUNT OF THE FIRST SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION TO THE CONGO RIVER, FROM THE LIBRARY OF THE RADICAL REFORMER FRANCIS PLACE, with three related manuscripts, the first two apparently in the hand of Francis Place, supplying a digest of the contents of the work, and noting observations 'taken down from the mouth of Mr. Bevans a sailor, who went with Capt. Tuckey'; the third with further critical comments on the work, apparently in Bevans' hand. BM(NH) V,p.2149; Wood p.603.
