LEWIS, Wyndham. The Ideal Giant. The Code of a Herdsman. Cantelman's Spring-Mate. London: Shield and Spring for the London Office of the Little Review, [1917].
8° (215 x 140mm). Illustrated additional title after Lewis. (A few very light spots and marks, light offsetting on first and last pages.) Original cloth-backed boards, upper board with design after Lewis, the stapled leaves retained by 3 white silk threads, later cloth box (boards a little browned and marked, extremities rubbed and bumped causing small losses).
FIRST EDITION, ONE OF CIRCA 200 COPIES. RARE INSCRIBED PRESENTATION COPY with inscription on title 'With the author's kind regards. , P. Wyndham Lewis , Dec 1917'. An Ideal Giant was Wyndham Lewis's first separately-published literary piece, which was privately printed in an edition of approximately 200 copies (to be distributed gratis), and was published on 8 November 1917, the month before this copy was inscribed. Rare; of the three copies recorded at auction by ABPC since 1975, only one was inscribed. Morrow and Lafourcade Lewis A2 (stating that the edition was 'approximately 200 copies'); Pound and Grover Lewis A1 (suggesting that possibly only 50 copies of the cover were produced, but that more copies of the pamphlet were printed).
