Lot Essay

Doris Duke commissioned this necklace from David Webb with stones from her collection or possibly from one of her mother's sapphire pieces she inherited in 1962 and disassembled. Records indicate she purchased it with a bracelet en suite, lot 35, on 8 May 1965 and paid $1,800.
