A ROMAN SILVER VASE
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.
Globular in form, on a splayed foot with a cylindrical neck and wide mouth, the body ornamented in relief with three nereids, each riding on the back of a Triton, the nereids each nude but for a mantle draped over her legs, one Triton carrying a club, one blowing a horn, and one carrying an oar over his shoulders, the waves below filled with dolphins and sea shells, a band above incised with a fillet, with two rectangular panels on the shoulders, perhaps once joined to now-missing handles
