Built by Barclay, Curle & Co., Ltd, Glasgow and completed in 1879 for Donald Currie's Castle Mail Packet Co. Southampton to Capetown service, she was originally named Grantully Castle. Purchased by Booth Steamship Co., Ltd., in 1896, she was renamed Augustine.
