A Collection of Voyages and Travels, some now first printed from original manuscripts, others now first published in English. London: Messrs. Churchill for John Walthoe, Thomas Wotton and others, 1732. 6 volumes, 2° (358 x 226mm). List of subscribers, 4 engraved frontispieces, 162 engraved plans, maps and views, many double-page, some folding and mounted on guards, numerous engraved and woodcut illustrations to text. (A few plates cut to within plate mark, one detached, some very light offsetting, occasional very slight marginal soiling.) Contemporary mottled calf gilt, spine tooled in compartments (joints split, some wear to extremities). Provenance: John Clevland (1734-1817), (armorial bookplate pasted inside upper covers) -- by descent to the present owners.

THE SECOND, 1732, EDITION IN FINE INTERNAL CONDITION. Originally published in 1704 in four volumes, this edition included an additional two volumes. By the third edition, published a decade later, the work had grown to eight volumes. This 'very valuable collection' (Cox) is notable both for its wide range and for drawing upon original accounts. It includes the voyages of Nieuhoff, Baldaeus and Thomas Phillips. Cf. Hill 295; cf. NNM 33; Sabin 13016; cf. Borba de Moraes, p.181. (6)
