A MASSIVE COMPOSITE QAJAR STEEL PROCESSIONAL STANDARD ('ALAM)
IRAN, SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURY
Comprising many elements, the base of scrolling steel arabesques supporting a line of elements including two smaller 'alams, four various vases, two with multiple drop pendants, together with two birds on bases, all flanking a central column of sperical and cuboid elements below the main drop-shaped panel with high upper section engraved and damascened in gold with floral motifs around various inscriptions, the reverse also with inscription cartouches coupled with a band of figural scenes of the battle of Karbala, flanked at each side by further vase elements together with various dragon-head terminals, almost all the elements decorated either with engraved or etched designs, further picked out with silver and gold damascening, probably assembled from various different original 'alams, together with a few further related elements, some slight damages, the upper main section re-welded across a break, some of the decoration rubbed
