Lot Essay

The present lot was sold in 1992 as part of the estate of the well known Dutch literary publisher Johan Polak. Polak was a pivotal figure in Amsterdam's cultural life from the early 1960's until his death in 1992. He was a distinguished classical scholar and an immensely discerning and demanding publisher of classical and contemporary literature.
