Lot Essay

This view depicts an arrangement in Vanessa Bell's studio in London. The painting in the background is Le Port, 1920, (private collection) by Henri Matisse, which was bequeathed to her by Roger Fry in 1934. Another version of the present view is in the collection of the Towner Gallery, Eastbourne.
