A Gibson SG Special guitar, Serial No.001842 cherry red finish, double cutaway solid body, Grover machine heads, 22 fret fingerboard with mother of pearl inlays, Gibson logo inlaid to head, duel P90 pickups, four rotary controls, selector switch, additional chrome tailpiece, tremolo absent, together with custom hardshell case. Played by Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. During the late 1960s, the SG became one of Gibson's most successful solid-body guitars and was especially popular with West Coast groups like The Doors, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother & The Holding Company and The Grateful Dead. Also present is a letter of authenticity from Jon Zazula, to whom Garcia bestowed the guitar in 1970.
