Lot Essay

For a modified version of the present model see the example dated 1730-33 and attributed to Johann Gottlieb Kirchner in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Albiker did not mention or illustrate the parrot in his first edition of 1935, but attributes the model at the Rijksmuseum in to Kändler, in his second edition of 1959; there appears to be no record of the bird in Kändler's work reports. For a further discussion about the model see Abraham L. den Blaauwen, Meissen Porcelain in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam 2000, page 400, no. 291. A 19th century version of the model, at the time described and dated as 1730-35, is illustrated in the Collection of Irwin Untermyer, see Yvonne Hackenbrock, The Irwin Untermyer Collection, London 1956, plate 5, fig. 8.
