TWEEDMOUTH, Sir Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, First Baron -- "Library Catalogue." [London, ca 1859].

MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER, 4o (295 x 230 mm). Title-page, with the Marjoribanks arms and motto emblazoned in the heraldic tinctures, on a leaf conjugate with the second watermarked Whatman 1853, and 184 leaves watermarked Whatman 1859, of which 27 are blank, both sides with printed rules in blue, written in a neat scribal hand on one side only, with occasional penciled additions. Contemporary crimson crushed levant morocco, front cover with circular gilt stamp with Marjoribanks crest surrounded by the name Dudley Marjoribanks, edges gilt (covers detached).

Manuscript catalogue of the library at Brook House, Park Lane, London, the residence of Marjoribanks, "a very capable man of business and a collector of works of art" (DNB); he was at that time liberal MP for Berwick-on-Tweed; he was created a baronet in 1866, a baron in 1881. It is not clear whether this first Brook House Library catalogue was compiled by Francis Harvey, who produced the printed edition in 1878 (see following lot).
