Catalogue of the Rowfant Library. The library was "unique of its kind" (De Ricci). Locker-Lampson was a Victorian poet whose London Lyrics went through numerous editions. He lived at Rowfant in Sussex, inherited from his second father-in-law, Sir Curtis Lampson. Locker's object was to secure the masterpieces of English literature, from Chaucer to Swinburne, in the first edition of each work. His small but extremely choice library contained several Shakespeare quartos and a perfect folio, Caxtons, and rare editions from Spenser to Browning. The Rowfant Library was purchased by E.D. Church, who kept only a small portion for himself and sold the rest through Dodd, Mead & Co. (mainly to American collectors). (2)
