One of 106 privately printed copies on handmade paper. PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Brooke on the front flyleaf of vol. I: "To G.I. Ellis Esq. with many thanks for his labour in the preparation of these volumes, from Th. Brooke." Ellis was the proprietor of the bookseller Ellis & Elvy, who was Brooke's principal book dealer. Brooke is best remembered for his purchase of the 164 volumes of the Pillone Library with their fore-edges and bindings decorated by Cesare Vicellio. (2)
