Lot Essay

In the early 1980's, Subramanyan began working on the theme of beauties, reverse painting on glass and acrylic. These small paintings work with a single face, figure or motif that present as art historian Siva Kumar writes, "a state of being". (K. G. Subramanyan, A Retrospective, R.
