A Kaga Style Suit of Armor
Edo period (18th century), helmet signed Kashu ju Hirata Muneyoshi saku
Sixteen-plate hoshi bachi with a four-stage gilt-copper, shakudo and red-lacquer tehen kanamono in chrysanthemum form, the turnbacks decorated with shakudo plum-floret family crests on red leather and the peak decorated with scrolling vines in shakudo on red leather, both trimmed in shakudo edging, helmet fitted with a five-lame solid-plate neck guard, the bottom lame lacquered gold, kuwagata-style maedate; iron facemask lacquered with red and black textured lacquer simulating leather, with a five-lame solid-plate throat guard lacquered to match the mask and laced in purple, the bottom two lames lacquered blue and black; two-plate solid do decorated with red and gilt leather, the separate muna ita laced in purple, do fitted with seven sections of five-lame leather tassets lacquered red, the bottom tasset lacquered gold and pierced on the corners with hollyhock apertures, all laced in green; red and gold-lacquer chu-sode; sleeves with gourd-shape iron plates on the forearms; ikada haidate; wood storage box
