George Bennett Bowell (1875-1942) initially worked for Robert Hope-Jones. Their collaboration led to the development of the Synchronome remontoire. After the partnership was dissolved Bowell formed his own company, The Silent Electric Clock Co., which produced clocks from 1911 to 1925. The present clock works on the Hipp Toggle principle. The advantage of Bowell's slave dial was the absence of mechanical noise; hence the name of the company.
