Lot Essay

This photograph was taken in the year that Weston met Modotti and began their relationship. Amy Conger refers to a print of Modotti '...with her eyes closed, seemingly in serene rapture...cut off about the collar bone...in which she is obviously nude...'1, which appears to describe this image.
