c1980 GAZELLE REPLICA OF A 1929 MERCEDES-BENZ SSK ROADSTER

Throughout the 1970's and 1980's Gazelle manufactured a variety of replica cars notably focusing on the famed 1929 Mercedes-Benz SSK Roadster. These replica cars more or less consisted of the same Mercedes-Benz SSK body style constructed of fiberglass giving them a very light weight. Most were built either on Ford or Volkswagen chassis and utilized many of their respective components, notably small four cylinder engines.
These cars were very much a sensation for they were strangely modeled after the SSK (but came at a fraction of the cost), were easy to maintain and source for parts, and handled remarkably well. Typical features, inclusive of this example were: running boards with stainless steel treads, mahogany dash, classic style gauges, horns, headlights, rally emblems, convertible top, side curtains, sport wood steering wheel, AM/FM cassette stereo and automatic transmission.
The specific history of the Tunick Gazelle is fairly limited: we can only say that it appears to be very much complete though having not run in many years. While the body and interior appear very serviceable and would require detailing and minor repairs, the condition of the four cylinder engine and subsequent mechanicals would likely require some modest attention. This Gazelle presents an excellent opportunity for the collector to recommission one of the most noted replicas.
